Welcome to Western Wayne County Conservation Club!  As a new member of a great organization I’m sure you’ll be amazed at the variety of functions available to you and your family.

If you ever wished you could be on the Silver Screen with Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, John Wayne, Calamity Jane or Dale Evens then Cowboy Action Shooting is for you!  Remember your cowboy hat and cap guns and how you saved the town with Gary Cooper or the Duke?  You can do it again with us! ! !

The Johnson Creek Regulators are a group within the club that participates in the fastest growing shooting sport in the world – Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS).   Once a month starting in March, on the 4^th Saturday, a hearty bunch of boys, girls and youngsters strap on a pair of six-guns and relive the Wild West period from about 1880 to 1900. 

Cowboy Action Shooters come in period dress, cowboy hat, boots, and all.  We shoot on the 200 yard range starting with a mandatory safety meeting at 9:30am and shoot til about 2pm.   All are welcome to watch as long as you have ear and eye protection.  To participate you’ll need 2-single action revolvers, a lever action rifle, both of pistol caliber of 32 or larger.  A lot of us shoot 45 long colt ammunition – why 45 you might ask??  Well there isn’t a 46!  And a shotgun, usually a side by side or an 1897 pump replica will complete your firearms. We shoot at 16” steel targets at a distance from about 7 yards to 50 yards and adhere to the rule “No target is too big or too close that it can’t be missed” 

CAS shooters are some the friendliest folk you’ll meet.  If you don’t have all the hardware – come on out and partner up with a cowboy or cowgirl and they’ll lend you what your missin.   Either way, come on out, bring the family and watch the goins on.   You’ll have a great time.

There is information on the Cowboy Action Shooting Bulletin Board on the East wall of the clubhouse.  We’re always glad to speak to you about the sport and how you can get started!  Our monthly meetings are in the clubhouse on the second Wednesday of the month.

COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING RANGE RULES

1. THIS IS A COLD RANGE! All firearms will remain UNLOADED except while you are under the direct observation of a Range Officer.

2. All loading and unloading will be conducted ONLY in the designated areas while under the observation of the Unload and Loading Table Officers.

3. Long guns will have their actions open immediately at the conclusion of each shooting sequence and while carried on the range, unless enclosed in a case or scabbard.

4. Handguns will be holstered except when on the firing line, at the loading/unloading tables, in a safety area, or at the shooter's vehicle. Handguns will be re-holstered at the conclusion of the gun's immediate use unless the stage directions specify otherwise.

5. Eye and hearing protection MUST be worn by ALL competitors and spectators.

6. Cowboy Action Shooting matches are NOT fast-draw competitions. ANY unsafe gun handling or fanning will result in a disqualification.

7. A dropped gun will result in a disqualification. The shooter will NOT pick up dropped gun. A Range Officer will recover the gun, examine it, clear it and return it to the shooter.

8. No shooter will have his/her finger on the trigger of any firearm until the firearm is pointed safely downrange.

9. Breaking a 170 arc relative to the firing line with the muzzle of a firearm will result in a disqualification. SWEEPING anyone AT ANY TIME with the muzzle of any firearm will result in a disqualification.

10. An accidental discharge impacting within 10 feet of the shooter OR in any direction deemed unsafe by the Range Officer will result in a disqualification.

11. Moving with a COCKED & LOADED firearm will result in a Stage DQ (basketball "traveling" rules apply).

12. Dropped ammunition will be considered "dead" and cannot be picked up until the shooter is finished shooting the stage.

13. The use of Drugs or Alcohol will not be tolerated on this range.

14. Muzzle control is very important. ALL muzzles must be pointed below the top of the berms when the weapon is under your control. Any round fired over the top of the berm is a MATCH DISQUALIFICAITON.

15. Dry firing a firearm at the loading or un-loading table is not permitted.

16. Minors 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult and under the direct and constant supervision of the adult.

17. Inter-personal conflicts will not be tolerated on this range.
